CHARACTER DESIGNS

Various character designs and supporting environment locations, inspired by two Edward Lear Limericks.

These two character design assessments followed the same brief; chosing an Edward Lear Limerick, create characters, a story and an environment.

The two limericks I chose were:

"There was a young lady whose eyes..." and

"There was a young lady from Troy...".

These two limericks inspired me to create the two different stories, each with supporting characters and environments to help convey the added story.

The Oracle and The King

Two main characters from the first character brief using the limerick, "There was a young lady whose eyes...". Story based around manipulation, corruption of a King and, an unforgiving curse that causes too much trouble than it should. The Oracle, with a curse to see into anyones life and their future by simply looking in their eyes, is banished from the kingdom by the corrupt King who despises what was seen in his life.

Various thumbnail sketches of the environment surrounding the kingdom and important locations. These locations vary from the castles grounds with the local stores, the enriched Oracle statue covered in offerings from her followers, to the run-down Temple where The Oracle was banished too.

Leya and The Flies

Two main characters from the secound character brief using the limerick, "There was a young lady from Troy...". A story, once again, based around a generational curse, a cult following, and the banishment of a family, losing their home and social status. Leya, is a young girl cursed with a swarm of flies to constantly surround her. Due to this generational curse, her family were banished from their home as she as seen as dirty and evil, now she tries to take back what is rightful hers.

Additional Characters and Leya's Props

Additional charactes, in the form of Leya's family and her cult followers, as well as, the various props that Leya uses and seen with. The family and followers all have a style that presents the anatomy of a fly; patterns of their wings, their eye shapes, and embroidered elements. Leya's props consist of a hat that is used to wade flies from her face, a winged cape that resembles fly wings and, a staff used as a weapon.
